The Jordan Spreader is truly a machine for all seasons. In the spring, summer and fall, its front blade and adjustable side wings are used to spread ballast and cut and clean ditches along a railroad's right of way. As an option, custom side wings can be supplied to contour the roadbed to the exact shape and profile specified by the owner. Fitted with a higher front blade in winter, the Jordan serves as a snow plow and ice cutter second only to large rotary plows. No wonder the O.F. Jordan Company's slogan for many years was "Does the Work of an Army of Men." Our model represents the Standard series Jordan manufactured in East Chicago, Indiana from the 1920s to the mid-1950s and still in use by many railroads today. In this model, the operator adjusts the blades and wings from a center cab, using pneumatic valves and cylinders powered by brake system air from the locomotive pushing the spreader. Later model Jordans have front-mounted cabs and onboard power for hydraulic activation of blades and wings.
