ONTARIO NORTHLAND 89’4” FLAT CAR #100510 (CUSTOM RUN)

Custom run Ontario Northland 89’4” flat cars.

Locally, these cars are nicknamed "chain cars" which unofficially pays
homage to the history of chaining down vehicles to regular flat cars as the
only way to get motorized vehicles all the way to Moosonee (which has no road connecting to southern Canada) from Cochrane.

The tie down method has changed with the introduction of the newly
rebuilt cars. They now use tire strapping, similar to tow trucks to tie
down vehicles which not only secures the car but limits potential damage
that chains can do when hooked up between a car frame and the flat car
because of the rocking while in transit.
