Introduced in 1933 amidst the Great Depression and in honor of its namesake's 200th birthday, The George Washington became the new standard bearer for firstclass service on the Chesapeake and Ohio. It was only the second fully airconditioned long distance train in the country and one of the few where the Pullman name was pushed aside for the train's own name in the prime center space of the letterboards. Names associated with Washington adorned the cars exteriors and the colonial motif was carried to the interiors as well. The train connected Washington DC with Cincinnati with connecting service to New York and St. Louis and offered passengers one of the most scenic if not direct routes between those points. Of course, it was also the best way to arrive in style at the C&O's own Greenbrier Resort. Initially led by spotless F-19 Pacifics, the George Washington always rated the best of steam and diesel power. When the train was modernized in 1946, many of the original cars retained their names and function. Last offered in 2007, don't miss your opportunity to add C&O's finest to your roster! These 18" passenger cars are the perfect complement to the F-19 Pacifics and include a mix of coach and sleeping accommodations along with a StationSounds diner to complete the full travel experience.
