Railroads across the country found the Atlantic type well suited for fast passenger service until steel cars and longer consists meant upgrading to Pacifics by the 1910s. Long after this, however, the 4-4-2 remained valuable on smaller trains, especially when speed between closer stations was important. Many railroads modernized their early Atlantics and kept them running well into the 1940s and 1950s. Lionel's Atlantics have plenty of power for the trains on your railroad.
